MANILA, Philippines — The mug shots of six former Magdalo soldiers will be coming off Philippine National Police (PNP) wanted posters after a court-martial dropped them from the list of accused in the 2003 Oakwood mutiny after determining they had served sufficient time in military detention.

PNP spokesperson Senior Supt. Leonardo Espina said no criminal cases had been filed against Seaman First Class Gerardo Dedicatura, Marine Cpl. Jerson Alabata, and Privates First Class Abraham Apostol, Jojo Abando, Hardy Glaraga and Jojit Soriano.

Espina said PNP Director General Jesus Verzosa directed the police directorates for intelligence and investigation and detection management to remove the six from the wanted list.

“We are now in the process of erasing the names of the six,” Espina said.

On Tuesday, the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) urged the PNP to remove the names of the six, plus Pfc. Monchito Lusterio, from its wanted list.

The CHR said the seven were not charged in the Peninsula Manila incident in November 2007 that involved military personnel including Oakwood leader Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV.

The Oakwood mutiny was mounted by a band of young military officers and personnel calling themselves Magdalo and who were disgruntled by the corruption in the Arroyo administration.

The CHR said that for the Oakwood mutiny, the accused had served their sentences.

“Unless the Philippine National Police has some other legal basis for holding the alleged Magdalo members in its wanted list, it is the urgent concern of the commission that said personnel be immediately removed from the list,” Leila de Lima said in an Aug. 20 letter to Verzosa.

Espina said Lusterio still faced criminal charges for participating in the Oakwood mutiny.
